bun

From Honeyberry on Irving Street.

leaving

In a day I will be off to Ireland helping Chi Young find an apartment and settling in for his one year studying abroad. It'll be a hard year, knowing that the kid will be gone, gone, gone. When people leave like this, I wish the world weren't so damn big. But people do leave, and there are oceans and mountains and thousands of miles in between. I am one of those people who don't want things to change. I am fine with everything the way they are. Everything was fine when he was just a little kid playing with Legos and Pokemon and watching Drake & Josh on Nickelodeon. I don't need him to grow up and go study overseas.

I know. It's an exciting adventure for him, and you cannot hold people back. Let them spread their wings and see what's out there. I just rather they not. That's all I am saying. Everybody just keep their wings where they are. There are plenty of good schools a bus ride away from here. Wings and flying are unnecessary.

Latest Evidence It's A Beautiful World:

i smoke to forget

I am really loving Jake Bugg's debut cd, which I am late catching on to.

I particularly like Two Fingers, which despite him being an English teenager from Clifton, Nottingham, somehow perfectly captures my state of being:

I drink to remember, I smoke to forget
Some things to be proud of, some stuff to regret
Run down some dark alleys in my own head
Something is changing, changing, changing

I go back to Clifton to see my old friends
The best people I could ever have met
Skin up a fat one, hide from the Feds
Something is changing, changing, changing

So I kiss goodbye to every little ounce of pain
Light a cigarette and wish the world away
I got out, I got out, out alive and I'm here to stay
So I hold two fingers up to yesterday
Light a cigarette and smoke it all away
I got out, I got out, out alive and I'm here to stay

Down in the kitchen, drinking white lightning
He's with my momma, yelling and fighting
It's not the first time praying for silence
Something is changing, changing, changing

So I kiss goodbye to every little ounce of pain
Light a cigarette and wish the world away
I got out, I got out, out alive and I'm here to stay
So I hold two fingers up to yesterday
Light a cigarette and smoke it all away
I got out, I got out, out alive and I'm here to stay

There's a story for every corner of this place
Running so hard you got out but your knees got grazed
I'm an old dog but I learned some new tricks yeah

So I kiss goodbye to every little ounce of pain
Light a cigarette and wish the world away
I got out I got out, out alive and I'm here to stay
So I hold two fingers up to yesterday
Light a cigarette and smoke it all away
I got out I got out, out alive and I'm here to stay

Hey, hey it's fine
Hey, hey it's fine
Hey, hey it's fine
I left it behind

Here is a performance video:

He is working with Rick Rubin now, so I expect great things to come.

mcGolden yamosteen

The last few restaurant meals I ate:

Egg white McMuffin - from McD's.  I had a free coupon.  Not bad.  Like the smooth runniness of egg white and cheese.  B

Habenero Quarter Pounder - from McD's.  Another free coupon.  Actually I like this one - I like the kick, and the crunchy bacon.  I haven't had a McD's hamburger in a long, long time (usually get McChicken off dollar menu if I ever go). B+

Chicken katsu and salmon teriyaki bento - from 2G Japanese Brasserie.  "Japanese Brasserie" makes it sound more interesting than it is.  Just another typical Japanese place.  Salmon was fine.  Katsu was too thin.  But I had a free $20 certificate, so it was almost a free lunch for two.  B-

House noodle, tea leaf salad, and samosa - from Yamo's.  Regina came down for lunch.  Nice surprise.  I like this Burmese hole-in-the-wall in the Mission.  Counter seating only.  Very flavorful but noodle and tea leaf salad portions are too small.  A-

Shrimp/minced pork/tofu/tomato rice noodle soup - from Golden Lotus.  This is at the old Turtle Tower location.  I liked this noodle soup quite a bit.  The broth tasted perfect seasoned and not too greasy (despite appearances).  It was #20.  A-

Lemongrass chicken garlic noodle - from Mangosteen.  Ok garlic noodle.  I like the flavor but the noodle is a little too done for me.  B-
