I was emailed an article about how x number of gov't employees have their 401K account balances reach $1M. I think this was supposed to encourage people to invest in their retirement. But I was like, WTF? How could those people's account balances hit $1M, while my balance is barely enough to pay for Madonna concert tickets (albeit Madonna concert tickets are very expensive, cuz grillz and canes just don't grow on trees, y'know)? I have from day one contributed the max I could and put the money in the recommended funds. They had promised that if I contribute the max from a young age, by retirement I would reach the $2M mark. Yup they promised and crossed their hearts and hoped to die and stuck a needle in their eyes. Liars!
Alright, maybe I am being pessimistic. Maybe between now and then, unicorns will take my 401K on a ride on a rainbow bridge and it will magically turn into a merry pot of gold. Maybe me and my supermodel bride will swim under a waterfall of fairy dust, and we shall live forever young and without disease and the need for long term care and stair lifts. Maybe the sun won't beat down and the rain won't come pounding on my house so that painting and leaks are as foreign to me as Kim Jong Un. Yup there is always that possibility.
So I shall keep watch and make like Elsa and sing to my 401K, "Let it grow, let it grow."
And this got me thinking randomly, what else would I want to let it grow? Here are ten things I would like to see grow, aside from my financial assets:
1. My Twitter/Instagram followers
2. My lemon tree
3. Chi Young into a fine, upstanding, happy adult
4. Amazing Race viewership so it will be on forever
5. Madonna's legacy
6. Backlash against Lady Gaga
7. My muscles
8. My hair
9. Panda population
10. My confidence
