winter spring summer or fall
This week, news broke (screw presidential election - all noise to me) that Netflix will be bringing back The Gilmore Girls in four 90-minute episodes. All the actual Gilmore girls - Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, and Kelly Bishop - are expected back. Sadly of course Edward Herrmann has passed, so Friday night dinner will not be the same. But how sweet it is to get one more chance to revisit that magical world. And to have four mini-movies is such a treat. Each episode will cover one of four seasons over a calendar year. That's so Gilmore Girls-esque. We get spring, summer, fall, and winter in Stars Hollow. I can almost picture, and hear, everything.
We will also get the final four words that Amy Sherman-Palladino had originally envisioned would end the series but never got the chance to use because, due to some contract dispute non-sense, she didn't end up having a role in the final season of the original series. Now everything will end the way it's supposed to end. How often in life does that occur?
This kind of kismet only happens every once in a great while. Like getting not one but two sequels to Before Sunset, or getting a Kickstarter-funded Veronica Mars movie. I thank the entertainment gods for this shit. If the gods throw me a bone like this every once in a while, I will tolerate the existence of your Kardashians and Housewives. Praise the lord.
